Akamai in Advanced Talks to Acquire Israeli Browser Security Startup LayerX

Akamai Technologies is in advanced talks to acquire the Israeli cybersecurity startup LayerX. According to sources close to the negotiations, the deal would involve a sum of approximately 250 million dollars, according to CTECH.

Founded in 2022 by Or Eshed and David Weisbrot, LayerX specializes in browser security. The company developed a platform that allows security administrators to secure business activities in browsers such as Chrome, Safari, and Edge without requiring user intervention, according to CTECH.

The founders had served in military technology units focused on cyber offense and defense systems. CEO Or Eshed previously helped expose a large-scale attack campaign on the Chrome browser, involving tens of millions of compromised browsers.

Strategic hub in Israel

For Akamai, this acquisition marks a further deepening of its presence in Israel. The country has grown into a strategic center for the American cloud and cybersecurity giant’s cybersecurity operations. If the deal is finalized, LayerX will be Akamai’s sixth Israeli acquisition. The company previously acquired Noname Security and Guardicore for $350 million and $600 million respectively.

For Akamai, the acquisition would further deepen its presence in Israel, which has become a strategic hub for the company’s cybersecurity operations.

To date, LayerX has raised $45 million from investors such as Dell Technologies Capital and Glilot Capital Partners. The company currently employs more than 80 people. Neither Akamai nor LayerX has officially confirmed the acquisition so far.
