Cloudflare has announced Cloudflare OS, an open-source AI-powered workspace running on Cloudflare’s global network. Cloudflare OS will provide every user with a secure workspace equipped with AI tools and access to internal company systems, without the need to install new infrastructure or spend months on custom development. Starting today, Cloudflare OS is available through the Cloudflare open source repository. Soon, organizations will be able to access Cloudflare OS directly through Cloudflare or work with a select group of global deployment partners — including Presidio, Happy Cog, and others — to tailor the deployment to their specific environment.
The typical enterprise AI tool knows a great deal about the world, but almost nothing about how a specific company operates, its internal systems, its approval processes, or how teams actually perform their work. Each new session starts from scratch, and employees have to re-explain the context that the AI should already know. Creating a custom alternative is no easy task; developing a platform with adequate security and true integration into internal systems can take years, and maintaining it can cost millions. Meanwhile, users seek stopgap solutions, the IT department loses track of which AI tools are being used and by whom, and costs pile up with little to show for it. Cloudflare OS starts from a different premise: the company compiles its knowledge, processes, and ways of working once into a format that AI can actually execute, and that knowledge is transferred to every employee’s workspace from day one.
Cloudflare OS began as the platform Cloudflare built to manage its own global workforce. Thousands of Cloudflare employees across all teams use it daily to research, create documents linked to real-time data, automate repetitive tasks, and develop applications that support their daily work. Internal tools, documents, and company systems are accessible through secure endpoints that verify each user and each request before granting access. That same platform is now available to any organization as open-source software. Because it’s open source and runs on the company’s own Cloudflare account, organizations own what they build on it. - A workspace for everyone: Cloudflare OS is accessible directly through a web browser without requiring any development experience. Employees have access to AI that can perform searches, generate data-driven documents in real time, or run automated workflows in the background without waiting for IT or development teams to intervene.
- Applications that anyone can create and share: any output can be turned into a functional application with its own isolated database, real-time capabilities, and access controls. Your colleagues can use that application directly or adapt it to their own needs. No developer is required.
- Zero Trust by Default: Cloudflare OS is built on Cloudflare Access, which verifies every user and every request before granting any access. AI agents start with no permissions by default and are granted access only to what they need for a specific task. Regulated connectors, called Gatekeepers, allow those responsible for each internal system to precisely control what the AI can see, what it can modify, and when human approval is required before an action is taken.
- It works with any model and helps you control costs: Thanks to Cloudflare AI Gateway, businesses can use any AI model provider and aren’t limited to just one. Administrators see exactly where the money is going, broken down by person, team, or application. They can set spending budgets, rate caps, or outsource routine tasks to smaller, more affordable models when a high-end model isn’t needed.
